Characterized by excellence, maturity, and enduring appeal; classic.

Dr. John Piper, referring to the influence of C.S. Lewis on his life, said this: “Finally, he has made me wary of chronological snobbery. That is, he has shown me that “newness” is no virtue, and “oldness” is no fault.  Truth and beauty and goodness are not determined by when they exist.  Nothing is inferior for being old, and nothing is valuable for being modern. This has freed me from the tyranny of novelty.” (Read entire article here)

I believe preaching must strike the balance between two extremes: faithful to God, relevant to people.  Today, many preachers want there sermons to be so relevant to people they have decided to not be faithful to God and His Word.  But the other extreme exists as well--those who want to be so faithful to God but decide the only way to do that is to be irrelevant to people.  Thus they either end up in boring orthodoxy or lukewarm sentimentality.  Both miss the mark.

This is the reason we have decided to call this ‘Vintage’ preaching.  We are trying with all our might to strike that balance between the old and the new.  Of maintaining the utmost of faithfulness to God while striving to remain relevant to people.  This is the great challenge of preaching.

“Yet when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, for I am compelled to preach.  Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!”
